Equipment to Buy

  • I need some advice on equipment to buy. I am trying to turn my hobby into a very small business operation. Right now, I plan to buy a Rebel XTi with 18 to 55mm lens, and a close up lens filter. I know that it isn't a lot, but I don't have much money budgeted for this. I plan to buy a 1550 light kit later on, a couple filters, and two more lenses. Should I get the kit lens, or just spend a little more and buy a better one? If so, what lens would you suggest? I will mainly use this camera for on location portrait pictures at schools and nature shots.

  • On further lenses, I would save and get the better ones. (Because you said you wanted to turn this into a business).

    But first, I'd get an off camera flash. Very first thing.
    You will also want a good 5 in 1 reflector. Makes all the difference.
    To do school portraits, you may also need another one or two flashes/lights.
    My fave lenses for portrait work are the 35mm 1.4 and the 70-200mm 2.8
