  • Santa Anna was not all bad. He'd allowed the Americans to come into Tejas as settlers with the stipulation that they not bring slaves as slavery was by then outlawed in Mexico. They came with their slaves. Tejas was well developed in one way. The missions were running herds of cattle numbering in the tens of thousands. The eastern Americans slavered at this wealth and decided that it would be a good idea to take Tejas from Mexico. (Where do you think all those longhorns of cowboy movies came from? They were stolen.)

    When Santa Anna mounted an expedition to beat the Americans back he confronted a stand at the Alamo. Unlike the Americans at Baghdad, he gave women and children safe passage before he began his bombardment.

    Make your thesis along these lines and go for an "A".
