Math fraction problem...help please!!?

There are 18 pizzas on a table where 24 people are sitting. Eight people decide to move to the nonsmoking section of the restaurant. How many pizzas or fraction of a pizza should they take with them to be fair? Explain.

1/3 of the people move (8/24 which reduces to 1/3) so they should take 1/3 of the pizza with them.

(1/3)(18) or even simpler (18/3) = 6 pizzas

Well each pizza has 8 pieces , so 8*18=144 slices. So 8 people want to go to another table. So divide144 from 24 and you get 6.* the 8 people with 6 and that is 48 slices of pizza that they bring.

they take with them about 6 pizzas.
because there are 18 pizzas which whn divided by 3 gives 6
and when 24 is divided by 3 it gives 8,
hence, there are 6 pizzas for every 8 people

1.) # pizzas/ # people = .75 or (1/4)
this means that each person get a 1/4 of the pizza

2.) (1/4) x (8)=6
if each person gets 1/4, then you need to multiply the number of people that are leaving.

they need to take 6 pizzas :D

to be fair....the 8 people would have to take 3/4 of the pizzas...

that would be 6 pizzas.

the 8 people would take 6 pizzas.

the ratios 18:24 matches 3:4 which matches 6:8.

first you want to figure out what fraction or percentage of people left to the nonsmoking section. you do this by dividing the part (8 people) by the whole (24 people total). you end up with 8/24 = 1/3 which is about 33%

so, to be fair, you'll want to take 33% (or 1/3) of the pizzas.
1/3 of 18 = 1/3 * 18 = 1/3 * 18/1 = (18 * 1)/(3 * 1) = 18/3 = 6 pizzas
