For this reason, many Christians don't consider some Catholic teachings as valid.
What I'd like to know is if anyone can proof text where either of these teachings are in the Bible? I'm looking for something EXPLICIT, not implied. This after all is the rule of thumb "Bible Christians" demand of Catholics.
1 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Galatians 3:14 - The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
John 5:39 - You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me
Deuteronomy 8:3 and Matthew 4:4 - Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"
JOhn 14:23 - Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
God bless you.
Jesus founded the Catholic Church: Matthew 16:18
St. Peter was the first pope: Matthew 16:18
The Church is considered the pillar of truth: 1 Timothy 3:15
The Bible is the inspired word of God: 2 Timothy 3:16
Church Tradition is authoritative like the Bible: 2 Thessalonians 2:15
The only place tht "faith alone" is mentioned in Scriptures is in the book of James where it is condemned as a heresy.
Certainly the Bible is suitable for teaching and inspired as the Church has said but remember St. Paul taught that the Bible is only part of the truth. The other part is the oral teaching of Jesus and the apostles through apostolic succession in the Church . One should read the entire Bible and understand it in context instead of using eisegesis and coming to false conclusions. this is why the Bible should be interpreted through the authority given by Christ, His Church.

for one, i would not stand against a persons belief in salvation and support their ideologies as it has given them spiritual manna and comfort. acknowldgeing christ is a great blessing no matter the religion. i have read of many saints and their lives where each devoted soul created they own gospel of how jesus lived through them. the only concern i have is for those who have denied him...its highly offensive considering his last days on earth were spent being tortured and mocked by the same people who praised his arrival...the govenment, the religious institution, and the mob crucified jesus...whatever your belief never forget what happened and by whom.
Honestly, Luther pointed these out centuries ago.
As for Sola Fide. This refers to the idea that it is faith alone that saves a person because we are not good enough to work our own salvation. This does not negate the idea of works but removes the emphasis from doing good works to earn salvation to doing good works because it is God working through us to accomplish his goals. (Philippians 2:12-13) Works are a proof of salvation not the means to salvation, in other words, works are the effects of faith and if you do not have works that flow from salvation it becomes more apparent that you are not actually saved. ( repeated theme in James)
If you want more explanation or have other questions let me know.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) 16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.
(Matthew 4:4) . . . It is written, Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah s mouth. . .
(James 2:14-17) 14 Of what benefit is it, my brothers, if a certain one says he has faith but he does not have works? That faith cannot save him, can it? 15 If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, 16 yet a certain one of YOU says to them: Go in peace, keep warm and well fed, but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it? 17 Thus, too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself.
(James 2:18-23) 18 Nevertheless, a certain one will say: You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith apart from the works, and I shall show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe there is one God, do you? You are doing quite well. And yet the demons believe and shudder. 20 But do you care to know, O empty man, that faith apart from works is inactive? 21 Was not Abraham our father declared righteous by works after he had offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 You behold that [his] faith worked along with his works and by [his] works [his] faith was perfected, 23 and the scripture was fulfilled which says: Abraham put faith in Jehovah, and it was counted to him as righteousness, and he came to be called Jehovah s friend.
Truth is based in the Bible. Faith alone gets you no where.
